The organization of the physical environment is crucial to Reggio Emilia’s early childhood programs and is often referred to

as the child’s third teacher. In this workshop Sim will introduce the main principles of incorporating a responsive/emergent

curriculum into a child care setting. She will discuss ways to design environments that utilize space to inspire and provoke

children’s thinking and learning. There will lots of opportunity to discuss and share experiences.

Sim White holds a Masters degree in Education from the University of Victoria. Her extensive experience as an ECE professional spans over 25 years. Sim has worked for 15 years as an ECE instructor at local colleges and has coordinated a wide variety of child care programs.

Workshop/Seminar Description:

In this interactive workshop, participants will acquire strategies for effectively communicating with families. They will discover their personality, communication and learning styles, brainstorm ideas and strategies on how to effectively communicate with parents and colleagues. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of building partnerships. Participants will receive multiple handouts to take with them to use in their centres.
